|While more and more people get PCs these days, they also forget that you can't add hardware and remove it without uninstalling the drivers for said hardware ad infinitum without something eventually breaking.
In the scenario where you had two GPUs of different makers (e.g. Nivida and ATI) and removed one of them for the time being, make sure you uninstall the drivers for the card through Add/Remove Programs (Win2k/XP) or Programs and features (Vista and 7).
However, even removing the drivers like this will still leave all kind of junk on your system, with thanks to the GPU manufacturers. So you need something extra to remove these drivers. I advise using Driver Sweeper. It's freeware.
The best way to clean drivers is to first uninstall the drivers using the official uninstallers, reboot in Safe Mode and run Driver Sweeper. Use it to remove whatever remnants of the videocard are still on the system and boot back into normal mode.
Without removing these drivers (remnants), BOINC can crash, hang, lose communications with BOINC Manager, start up extremely slowly and other freakinii.
